The overall fee for the week( 7 nights) is 950 euros which includes all materials, tuition, hotel room and breakfast. ( Friday 15th & Friday 22th are actually arrival/settling in days, the workshops themselves begin on the 16th May & 23rd May respectively & end at 1pm on the 22nd and 29th of May respectively). The format of the workshop is that James draws/paints by example for the first hour of the day after breakfast, describes what he is doing/takes questions and then sets students to paint a similar theme for the next several hours from 11am through to 2 or 3pm when he circulates, advising, cajoling, helping! Students are then free to continue painting, or swim or lunch and then there is a general crit each day at 7pm at the hotel or James’ studio (depending on where we paint). The aim of the week is to make two 38x28cm paintings using the same materials that the artist generally uses and have one excursion/drawing day.

Kyparissi is situated in the quite remote south east corner of the Peloponissos mainland – to get here you can either fly to Athens/hire a car for the 4 – 5 hour drive or take a bus from Athens(Kifisou)Bus Station to either Sparti or Molaoi from where James will pick you up by car – or fly to Kalamata & hire a car for the 2 – 3 hour journey. From Athens I can possibly organise a lift by car with another student attending the workshop – obviously a contribution towards fuel is welcomed. The village has several nice restaurants & cafes, a bakery, butcher and two well stocked shops but has no pharmacy, ATM or gas station so come prepared with any medications you might need & make sure the car has gas as it is a 100km round-trip to get any of these things. Mobiles work here & there is a free Kyparissi wifi.
